City & Guilds 2395-01 Award in the Periodic Inspection, Testing and Certification of Electrical Installations

This course is ideally suited for candidates who are practicing electricians with domestic and industrial experience of installations preferable holding the City & Guilds 2382 – 17th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification.

The objective of the City & Guilds 2395 Award in the Periodic Inspection, Testing and Certification of Electrical Installations is for the candidate to be able to:
 
  • State the need for the purpose of initial verification and periodic inspection and testing
  • State the information required to correctly conduct the inspection and testing of an installation
  • State the statutory and non-statutory requirements and relevant guidance material that apply to the activity of inspection and testing of electrical installations
  • State the need to comply with statutory and non-statutory requirements, and guidance material for practical locations and environments in which electrical installations are installed
  • State the information contained on Certificates and Inspection reports and how the information is recorded on all certificates as indicated in BS 7671 (current edition)
  • State the human senses that may need to be employed during the inspection of an installation
  • Refer to and identify the items to be checked during the inspection process for given systems and locations as detail in BS 7671 (current edition)
  • State the particular requirements for a periodic inspection of an electrical installation as defined in BS 7671 (current edition)
  • State the need to establish the extent and limitation of a Periodic Inspection Report, with the client and any relevant third parties, prior to commencing the inspection, and the need to record those details on the Periodic Inspection Report
  • State tje requirements of the Electricity at Work Regulations for safe inspection and testing in terms of those:
    1. carrying out of work
    2. using the installation and building during the inspection and testing
     
    This Level 3 scheme is for those with current industry experience of inspection and testing of electrical installations to BS7671:2008 (17th Edition Wiring Regulations) and require to become certified, possibly for NICEIC purposes.  Please note this is not suitable for novices.  Candidates wishing to achieve this qualification lacking industry experience should consider the City & Guilds 2392-10 scheme first.
     
    Course Description
     
    Theory / Practical
     
    The requirements of BS 7671 for inspection, testing and certification, practical demonstrations of specified tests, ‘hands on’ sessions and preparation for written and practical assessments are covered.

    The course consists of:
     
  • Training - 3 days
  • Practical assessment (4 hours)
  • Revision - 1 day (optional)
  • Written examination (2½ hours)

    Assessments
     
  • "One-to-one" practical assessment of 4 hours duration with a qualified Assessor.
  • 2½ hours written examintaion comprising of short answer and structural questions. Dates are set by City & Guilds and will take place during an evening.
